The Nerathi Historical Society
The Nerathi Historical Society is a scholarly fellowship, dedicated to preserving lore of the past independently of any national allegiance or politically-preferred philosophy. Their ethos is “Truth, Knowledge, and Discovery”. Comprised mostly of retired adventurers, arcane and divine scholars, and wealthy nobles with a penchant for curious research, the Society often hires out adventurers to undergo expeditions for them, ranging from artifact retrieval to cartographic missions to exploration in forbidden locales.
The Society regularly publishes a journal of their discoveries and tales of adventure in faraway lands. These journals are treated as absolute gospel by some and as unbelievable pulp adventure by others, which has given the Society a tarnished reputation in some cultures. Fiorenzia, for instance, has outlawed the Nerathi Historical Society from engaging in expeditions without direct license from the nobility, while in The Free Colonies, mercenary companies regularly compete for contracts with the Society.
Agents of the Nerathi Historical Society can be identified by the ornate gold-and-onyx signet rings issued to the Society’s most treasured researchers and benefactors, and the revelation of such a signet ring in most circles is a sign that the Society is seeking assistance with a new adventure, and that there is most definitely coin to be had for those brave enough to accept.
